photo assignment, dos

here's my most recent photo portrait assignment of my sister eve. she liked the pictures i took of my sister ruth earlier and couldn't wait for me to do a shoot with her haha. she was such a natural! i had fifteen minutes to throw something together before we celebrated my mother's birthday dinner. here's four of only 20 pictures i took. she's wearing a ralph lauren night gown and a vintage pea coat we got in england.

if apparition was real..

this is a nice video i found with some nice music. also featuring one of my favorite places in the world (which is where i am in the blog banner). hopefully i will get there soon.

photo assignment

I recently just purchased a Canon 7D and am taking a photo class at the moment. This was my first real assignment and first time really using the camera.  I had to do it around midday so lighting wasn't ideal. I kind of liked the style of the washed-out look, but looking back I probably wouldn't have exposed some of the images as much. My little sister Ruth was an incredible talent though, was she not? She chatted my ear off the entire shoot. I think I shot 400 pictures and these are about the only ones where her mouth wasn't open, telling me some outrageous story or earth-shattering realization."Benjamin. I think eagles come here to lay their eggs! I bet they find mice in these grass. Will a mouse bite me in here? Do mouses bite little girls? I wouldn't if I was a mouse because that's mean. One time in school, we watched a video of a snake and it ate a e-tire mouse. Lots of kids thought it was gross but I didn't. Rachel cried. But I told her it's okay because it's just gonna go to heaven.." And on and on.. haha

ahhhhhh..

Although it feels beyond incredible to be finished with school for the summer, I'm really going to miss my Astronomy class. I took it as a gen-ed class not thinking much of it, but I think it's been the most fascinating class I've taken in school yet. Obviously the size of the universe was just a "small" thing we learned in class, but here's a corny-made video that really demonstrates it --if you've never seen anything like it before..

Probably the nerd in me, but don't you think it's amazing that our bodies are made up of elements and matter that formed in the hearts of stars billions of years ago? i think it's THE sauce.
If anyone out there goes to college and needs the gen-ed credit, probably take this class.
ALSO, if it's been a while since you've taken a drive to remote country and looked up at the sky at night.. highly recommend it. you won't be disappointed.

a SUCCESS in summer reading!!!

Literally moments before I left to meet my family in Midway for our mini-vacation last week, I ran to the downtown Barnes&Noble for a book to read by the pool. It had been forever since I'd read a good book --I mean a book that I really loved.  But I didn't really have time to sit and read the backs of books for hours to find the perfect one.  So I stuck with the classics section and grabbed this one (Siddhartha) hoping it would take me somewhere adventurous and exotic in India.
I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. It's a beautiful, engaging novel about a Buddha-contemporary (also by the name of Siddhartha) and his extremely interesting and enlightening spiritual journey. I really identified with the main character and the book gave me many insights into my own life. Definitely one of my favorite books, and I'm actually considering re-reading it -something I've never done with a book before. *****/*****
So if you're looking for a good summer read, it's relatively short and bn.com has it on sale for about $5.
